Resume Tips
By following the points below and adding your own personal style, you can create a document that not only establishes your credentials and qualifications, but will also capture the employers interest and get you on the short list! |
The Covering Letter - Give it some punch!
Each time you apply for a position make sure the covering letter is specific for the position you are applying for. It is so obvious when we receive resumes if the covering letter is just a standard blurb or if the applicant has actually taken the time to address the requirements of the position. You have to get our attention to make sure we read on, as this will dramatically increase your chances for gaining an interview.
Personal Details - What's your style?
It may sound blatantly obvious but many candidates forget or neglect to include their address, phone numbers, and email addresses on their resumes. There is nothing more frustrating for a recruiter to find the perfect candidate and then have trouble contacting them. Furthermore, don't be afraid to put your hobbies and interests as these help to build a picture of the type of person you are and what you enjoy doing.

There are basic areas that you must cover in your employment history which will help us (and therefore you) ascertain fit you could be the round block in the round hole:
Who you have worked for - Simply the name of the company, its location and the title of the person you reported to. |
The business the company is in - Briefly describe the core business of the company. If we know what industry and products you have dealt with you increase you chances of not being overlooked! |
Position & Responsibilities - What you were responsible for including staff, geographical area, and the other divisions or sections that you liaised with. |
Achievements - It amazes us how many people tell us in their resumes what they have done but not how well they have done it! Quantify where possible just how well you completed each role you have worked in. |
Don't leave anything out! - Because you are never sure exactly what your clients require you should never leave anything out of your employment history. What may seem irrelevant to you could just be the 'X Factor' we have been told to look for! Also, don't leave any unexplained gaps - we understand that people take time to find new employment, they travel overseas, they take time off for their family, etc. If you have an unexplained gap in your resume some people will automatically ask what you are trying to hide? |

Education - Secondary, Tertiary, Trade and Other!
"By the way, I also speak Spanish and have a teaching diploma". List all the education (completed or not) that you have done in your life, and all the other skills that you have. Many of these are transferable so don't discount what you know as being irrelevant for the position you are applying for - they all add up to paint the total picture.
If you do not fit the brief that our client has given us we will advise you - however, all Bond Consultants work within defined markets and if you are not suitable for the position you apply for, we may be working on another position that is just right! Also take into consideration that only approximately 50% of the positions we fill are advertised - the rest we fill from our candidate database.
